Bonnie, please forward to our Retama and BPV friends:
Everyone we talk to is amazed by the generosity and support of our parks and friends. This afternoon we reached $9,000 in donations and have given out $8,800 in gift cards. We have about $200 in cash.
We had $2,900 in donations today. We gave out all the cards we had and have 14 envelopes with Border Patrol names and addresses to send cards to.
Not everything went smoothly today. I received a call from HEB management. They were not pleased that we were using their corporate name without their permission and that we had put a picture of their employee on Facebook. So it goes.
We are starting to wind the project down. We will have volunteers at the Clubhouse Wednesday morning to take the names of agents who come. We would like to reach $10,000 in total donations so we will be accepting donations Wed. morning at the clubhouse. BPV is doing a collection Wed. evening.
Who would have thought when we started this project Friday evening that we would have taken in and given out $9,000 in 4 days.
It is hard to work giving these cards out without tears.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Begins with a donation of seven hand-made infant blankets from Georgia and Bob Bailey. Super cute, hand made blankets to be given to those in need. Our first wive has a month old baby girl and cuddled the blanket tightly. A second wive arrived, ready to give birth any hour to twin girls embraced two blankets. Another family arrived with a young boy who caressed the blanket while his parents shared their story. By days end, all seven blankets found new homes. Again the outpouring of appreciation by our CBP each agent brought tears to our volunteers.
A text message received today, just one of many: "I just wanted to thank you for helping our Border Patrol Families .... words can't express how grateful we are .... I'm very proud of being in such a great community."
