Who would have thought the first part of the week that we would still be giving gift cards on Friday. Today Bentsen Palm Village Guest Services collected $890, and their Margarita last night generated $1420!.
At the end of business today, we have spent $15,800 to purchase 316 gift cards. We handed out 36 cards today, to bring total distribution to 261 cards. We have 55 cards in inventory to hand out tomorrow. In addition, we have received one HEB $50 gift card and two $50 Visa gift cards in the mail, which we will also hand out.
While Ginger was working today, two Border Patrol RETURNED two $50 cards because their supervisors would not let them accept gifts over $20 (government regulations). Ginger is a pro. She accepted the two returned cards and then handed them two cards with different pictures on the face and said, “Here are two $20 cards”. Don’t mess with Seniors!
The plan is to hand out cards at the Clubhouse Friday and then close down that part of the operation. Many Border Patrol now have my phone number. If they don’t get paychecks on Monday, we expect that some will call again and ask if cards are still available. If they don’t get paid Monday, we will give a second card, while the supply lasts.
People have asked about Facebook donations and a “Go Fund Me” page. Our answer has been, “No”. We are not a legal entity. We do not have 501 C3 status. We are just two RV parks that felt compelled to donate money to Border Patrol. We don’t want publicity. We just want to quietly show our appreciation to the men and women who keep us safe.
By tomorrow, you donations will have exceeded $16,000+. Ya’ll should feel very good about what we have accomplished.
The appreciate from the CBP was seen today by two different guests at BPV. While walking on the levy an agent stopped his truck, got out and shook their hands, expressing his appreciation for the generosity of our community. A feel good moment for all!
