What a great presentation by Rick Garcia with Hidelgo County Sheriff Department and Ashley Carrera with Texas Law Shield.
Not only did they feed a huge crowd, but their Situational Awareness program covered a collection of great topics and reminders of staying vigilant of our surroundings. We look forward to having Ashley and her team return soon.
We sure had fun with the US Customs and Border Protection - Border Community Liaison team presentation. It was obvious they love their job and shared a wealth of information.
Dispatch for reporting any suspicious activity or International visitors:
Niles and I were invited to attend the quarterly Border Patrol Shareholders meeting of the landowners in the RGV section, The program included updates on what is happening in our sector.
Did you know the new small balloon, which flies near Bentsen State Park can fly up to 1,000 feet high, and has a viewing radius of about 2 miles. This was a prototype has been successful, there are plans to set up more.
The family units crossing into the US has decreased substantially, and the Cartel are moving back to their drug smuggling, this time moving smaller loads. Interestingly they have been using drones to move their loads across the river. If you see a drone, BP ask that you call them immediately!
The presentation ended with a visit to their dispatch center. Mission Control, and the technology is right out of the movies. Many times dispatch answers your call with 'TALK'. Yes, they want you to talk, but it's "TOC" and means Tactical Operation Center, they handle 95% of the dispatching from there, and operation of the sensors & cameras. We were able to see the Range through the nearby town. The camera zoomed right into our targets. So next time you have a good score, share the results with the tower .... yes, they can zoom in and see your shots!
All in all, it was a great opportunity to learn more about what our hard working BP does to keep all of us safe.
Don't Break The Heart
Saturday Morning's Shoot
Niles created a fun Valentine target for us.The candy hearts glued to the paper were the largest he could find, but they were still a challenge to hit. Both 22LR rifle and pistol shot the targets and the winners won a gift card to FireHouse!
Pat Stewart's delicious lunch was a treat as we watched Dennis Wainwright fly his drone. Thanks Pat for the tasty lunch and Dennis for giving us a birds eye view!
The range remains closed this week .... with luck the Fisher Wall crew will be packing up soon ... very soon!
